Why verse-by-verse expository teaching?
False teaching is for the most part a non issue when teaching through the scriptures verse-by-verse. Most false teaching can be refuted simply by looking at the passage in context. We also believe that this is really the only way a person can come into a mature and fruitful relationship with Christ.
When revealing Himself, after the resurrection, Jesus took them through the entirety of the scriptures!
Luke 24:25-27 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! “Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Later on Jesus revealed himself bodily and then through the scriptures to His disciples.
Luke 24:44-45 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Paul told the Ephesian Elders before leaving for Jerusalem
Acts 20:26-27 “Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. “For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.
Old Testament Pattern
Nehemiah 8:6-8 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place. So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.
